چکیده

Abstract. Snow is a critical water resource for the western United States and many regions across globe. However, our ability to accurately measure monitor changes in snow mass from satellite remote sensing, specifically its equivalent, remains challenge. To confront these challenges, NASA initiated SnowEx program, multiyear effort address knowledge gaps sensing. During 2020, Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle Synthetic Aperture Radar (UAVSAR) team acquired an L-band interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data time series evaluate capabilities limitations of repeat-pass InSAR tracking equivalent (SWE). The goal was develop more comprehensive understanding where when can provide SWE change estimates, allowing community leverage upcoming NASA–ISRO (NASA–Indian Space Research Organization) SAR (NISAR) mission. Our study analyzed three image pairs Jemez Mountains, NM, between 12 26 February 2020. We developed snow-focused multi-sensor method that uses UAVSAR synergistically with optical fractional snow-covered area (fSCA) information. Combining two sensing datasets allows atmospheric correction delineation pixels within swath. For all pairs, we converted phase values estimates acquisition dates. then evaluated InSAR-derived retrievals using combination fSCA, pits, meteorological station data, situ depth sensors, ground-penetrating (GPR). results this show effective estimating both accumulation ablation proper measurement timing, reference phase, snowpack conditions.

Interferometric synthetic-aperture radar (InSAR)

Geodesists are, for the most part, a patient and hardworking lot. A day spent hiking to a distant peak, hours spent waiting for clouds to clear a lineof-sight between observation points, weeks spent moving methodically along a level line – such is the normal pulse of the geodetic profession. The fruits of such labors are all the more precious because they are so scarce. A good day spent with an...

Effect of Faraday rotation on L-band interferometric and polarimetric synthetic-aperture radar data

Electromagnetic waves traveling through the ionosphere undergo a Faraday rotation of the polarization vector, which modifies the polarization and phase characteristics of the electromagnetic signal. Using L-band ( = 24 cm), polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data from the shuttle imaging radar C (SIR-C) acquired in 1994, we simulate the effect of a change in the Faraday rotation angle ...

Coherent interferometric imaging for synthetic aperture radar

This paper shows that the coherent interferometric imaging strategy originally proposed in the context of passive or active arrays of antennas can be implemented for synthetic aperture radar, in which a single antenna is used as an emitter and as a receiver at successive positions along a trajectory. The idea is to backpropagate the cross correlations of the recorded signals over selected frequ...
